Image Sharpening

For this exercise I attempted to sharpen an image. For my first attempt, I tried to do this myself by applying the Photoshop functions and tools that I have learned so far (like blending modes, adjustment layers). I do not think that this attempt was completely successful because there are still some blurry areas. There are some visible blurry patches as well, where it is clear that I tried to change an image. For example, neck near the ear - the ear is sharpened but the neck is still blurry and it looks unnatural. For the second time I attempted to follow the tutorial. I am not very happy with the final image. I believe it looks too processed. There is a lot of harsh contrast which also makes the image look unnatural. Also, there are some inconsistencies, were some areas are still blurry and others way too crusty. Although the first image does not completely fulfil the given assignment, I still think it is a much better looking final result.
